Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum fire rating available?
An automatic fire curtain is a deployable fire-resistant barrier designed to protect openings and support fire compartmentation within a building. During normal operation, it remains concealed above the opening. When it receives a signal from the building’s fire-alarm system, it automatically descends to help restrict the spread of fire and heat.
How are FIROBLOCK fire curtains triggered?
The curtain normally remains retracted inside a compact headbox, keeping the protected area open and unobstructed. When the fire-alarm system is activated, the curtain automatically descends along its side guides and creates a fire-resistant barrier. After the emergency or system test is completed, it can be reset and retracted according to the approved operating procedure
Can they integrate with BMS systems?
FIROBLOCK Automatic Fire Curtains are available in configurations providing fire resistance of up to 240 minutes. The system is tested to BS EN 1634-1 and references EN 13501-2. The applicable rating depends on the proposed dimensions, configuration, installation conditions, and supporting technical documentation for the project.
What happens dueing a power failure?
The FIROBLOCK system incorporates a gravity fail-safe deployment mechanism designed to lower the curtain safely when required. An integrated battery-backup option is also available. The precise power, control, and emergency-operation arrangements should be confirmed according to the project’s approved fire-safety strategy.
What openings sizes can be covered?
Automatic fire curtains can be used in shopping malls, hospitals, airports, hotels, corporate offices, IT parks, high-rise buildings, industrial facilities, lift lobbies, atriums, corridors, and other large openings where permanent fire-rated walls or doors may not be practical. Suitability must be evaluated according to the building’s fire strategy and site conditions.
Do you provide installation and service support?
Yes. FIROBLOCK can support project teams with drawing reviews, opening assessments, system selection, technical coordination, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance guidance. To receive an accurate recommendation and quotation, share your project drawings, opening dimensions, required fire rating, location, and fire-safety requirements with the FIROBLOCK technical team.
